Head – Biodiversity & Habitats

Full Time Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India
Team: Biodiversity & Habitats

Brief Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced and purpose-driven professional to lead our Biodiversity & Habitats Programme. This is a leadership role for someone who brings both depth of knowledge and a collaborative spirit—someone who can think strategically while remaining deeply connected to the realities of work on the ground, across both terrestrial and marine realms.

The ideal candidate will have at least 20 years of relevant experience in biodiversity conservation, habitat management, ecology, or related environmental fields, backed by an appropriate advanced degree.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for biodiversity and habitat-related programmes, ensuring alignment with The Habitats Trust’s mission and long-term goals.
  • Oversee and strengthen existing projects while identifying opportunities for innovation and impact across landscapes, seascapes, and species.
  • Guide and mentor project teams, fostering a culture of shared purpose, openness, and mutual support.
  • Manage day-to-day operations within the programme, ensuring effective coordination, resource utilization, and problem-solving where needed.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with government agencies, research institutions, NGOs, local communities, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to organisational planning and thought leadership through evidence-based insights and grounded field experience.

About You

You are a leader who leads by example—calm under pressure, grounded in purpose, and generous with your knowledge. You enjoy solving problems collaboratively and believe that meaningful change comes from teamwork and persistence. You are as comfortable engaging with senior policymakers as you are walking through a forest or diving into the sea and working with field teams.

You have worked on conservation issues across multiple ecological domains, including terrestrial, freshwater, marine, restoration, and community ecology.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 20 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity conservation, ecology, environmental management, or allied sectors.
  • A postgraduate qualification (or higher) in ecology, conservation biology, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects, partnerships, and teams.
  • Proven ability to align programme delivery with broader organisational objectives and mission.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the capacity to inspire confidence among diverse stakeholders.

Why Join Us

At The Habitats Trust, you will find a community of professionals driven by shared values and a genuine commitment to solving the interconnected challenges of ecological and economic security. This is an opportunity to shape impactful programmes while contributing to a culture that values integrity, curiosity, and collaboration.

If you are ready to bring your experience, leadership, and heart to a purpose that matters, we would love to hear from you.
