Position Summary:
The ‘On-Ground Projects – Terrestrial and Freshwater’ programme focuses on identifying major gaps in ecological understanding and conservation needs within terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. The team collaborates with several partners to fill this gap using targeted research and practical, evidence-based conservation efforts. The incumbent must view this as a long-term career opportunity wherein and s/he will be expected to be implementing, coordinating, and monitoring & evaluating The Habitats Trust’s ecological projects under its On-ground programme, helping realize its overall vision and goals.
Key Responsibilities :
- •Strategic Development: Actively contribute to shaping the vision, strategy, and long-term direction of THT’s On-ground Projects programme.
- •Project Implementation: Execute and manage initiatives under THT’s On-ground Projects programme, which includes identifying and communicating with partners, planning, budgeting, organizing and scheduling meetings, travelling to project sites, monitoring, and reporting.
- •Research and Ideation: Supporting the team in the identification of priority landscapes and brainstorming new projects to mitigate long-term conservation challenges.
- •Data Management: Some projects may require data collection and analysis efforts. The incumbent will need to undertake data management while ensuring data security for all project related activities.
- •Monitoring & Evaluation:Regularly assess the progress and performance of ongoing projects in collaboration with field teams and report insights to the Manager, On-ground Projects.
- •Reporting & Documentation: Create and contribute to project reports, impact assessments, case studies, and other relevant publications.
- •Compliance: Ensure compliance is maintained from partners and necessary paperwork is received on time.
Required qualifications, experience, and skills:
- •At least 1-2 years of relevant experience focused on biodiversity research and conservation.
- •Master’s Degree in relevant discipline (wildlife or biological sciences or any other relevant field)
- •Strong understanding of ecological principles, biodiversity issues, and field-based conservation practices.
- •Excellent project execution, collaboration, and coordination skills.
- •Keen interest in implementing and monitoring programs / projects.
- •Excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
- •Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
Desired qualifications, experience, and skills:
- •Experience working with NGOs, research institutions, or government bodies on conservation or sustainability initiatives.
- •Speciality/Expertise in at least one broad vertebrate taxon group (such as birds, mammals, etc.) with interest in broad ecological processes.
- •Demonstrated ability of working with statistical tools and software such as R and GIS software.
- •Experience in organizing and conducting workshops and meetings.
- •Fluency in speaking and reading multiple Indian languages.

- •Motivated to publish in peer-reviewed journals, popular publications and other communication platforms.
- •Possesses a solutions-oriented mindset, able to navigate dynamic field conditions, adapt creatively to constraints, and thoughtfully challenge existing approaches.
