Brief Job Description:

    We are seeking a skilled Social Scientist with expertise in impact assessment, econometrics, and social science research to evaluate the community- and individual-level impacts of conservation initiatives supported by The Habitats Trust. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement. Experience with government policies in the socio-ecological realm is a plus.

Key Responsibilities :

1. Develop Metrics & Collect Data (with the Impact Team):
  • Create and adapt frameworks and indicators to assess the social, economic, and psychological impacts of THT-supported conservation programs.
  • Design and conduct data collection exercises (e.g., field surveys, interviews, focus group discussions).
  • Use secondary data sources (e.g., open-access datasets, government data, and reports from think tanks, NGOs, and government bodies) to contextualize insights.
2. Analyze & Interpret Data to Assess Impact:
  • Use tools such as causal inference, econometric analysis, thematic/content analysis, spatial statistics, and psychometric analysis (using tools like R, Python, QGIS, NVivo, etc.).
  • Apply innovative methods such as quasi-experiments and counterfactual designs within Before-After-Control frameworks.
  • Interpret findings and prepare internal reports with evidence-based evaluations.
3. Reporting & Documentation:
  • Prepare detailed reports on impact assessment findings.
  • Draft concise reports for government bodies.
  • Develop policy briefs and actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Presentations:
  • Present findings to government departments, NGOs, and community groups.
  • Facilitate workshops and discussions to support evidence-based decision-making.
5. Collaboration & Coordination:
  • Collaborate with government and non-government stakeholders—including conservationists, ecologists, economists, and policymakers—to integrate social science into conservation strategies and policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Psychology, Social Sciences, Social Work, Management, Environmental Studies, or Rural Development. (Applicants from other backgrounds with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.)
  • 5–7 years of experience in impact assessment, public policy, or social research.
  • Strong analytical skills, including large-scale data analysis.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Prior experience in conservation, rural development, or environmental projects.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Python).
  • Experience with geospatial tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills, tools, and methodologies for impact assessment across diverse stakeholder contexts.

Duration & Remuneration:

  • Initial contract for 2 years; extendable based on performance.
  • Competitive salary as per industry standards.
